Tips for when things take longer than expected.

If you’re like me, when you want something, you want it now. The thing is that sometimes, things take longer than expected. Things come up. More commonly, we tend to underestimate the work that needs to go into us reaching a desired final result.

This situation can be a source of frustration and negativity because it puts you in a space where you feel unhappy with your current reality since it’s very different from the one you want. When things don’t go as planned, the best thing you can do is

1. Reassess your strategy without getting down about it and fine tune your approach. You want to have a flexible mind otherwise, it’s easier to throw in the towel and that will never get you anywhere.

2. Next. Recommit to your goal by focusing more on the big picture. That will shift your focus from short term to the long term. The idea of an overnight success is a myth. In reality, the people who become highly successful are more often than not people who have put in plenty of time and effort into reaching their goals.

3. Next, focus more on the feeling and desire that is behind your goal and have that be what strengthens your commitment to continue regardless of anything. So for example, I invest my time, effort and money in making self-development videos in English and Spanish, because I spent close to 30 years of my life feeling trapped by my past and lost without any direction. Because of it, my goal, my mission so to speak is to help others in the way that I wish somebody would have helped and mentored me. That is what fuels me. That is what had me writing this script at 4:00am. In the same way, you need to get in touch with your passion and purpose for doing whatever is that you are working on.

4. Lastly, this is a very important one. You must remember to live in the present as you work on building the future you want because you’ll notice that the moment you start living in the future, in the same way that you would if you were living in the past, you feel completely unhappy. It’s important that you live in the present and focus on all the positives that you currently have in your life.

Practice gratitude… even for the small stuff. This includes the fact that you are alive and well. While simple, practicing gratitude can be powerful given that you really practice it. Do these 4 things and you will find yourself going from feeling frustrated and unsatisfied to being at peace, inspired and in your own power.
